Anne Bouhour, Licensed Massage Therapist of Bethesda, MD.
A Licenced Massage Therapist in Maryland, Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, I graduated from the Potomac Massage Training Institute in Washington D.C. in 2002. I'm a member of the AMTA.
After practicing in Spas and in a Massage Therapy Center, I started a private practice at my home in Bethesda, MD and my love for massage therapy has never ceased to grow.
Having a private practice allows me to provide a more personal client experience and also to give some of my time as a volunteer massage therapist for the Montgomery Hospice.
I'm continuing to diversify my education in Swedish and Deep Tissue massage by studying High Touch Jin Shin Acupressure, CranioSacral Therapy, Lymph Drainage Therapy, Myofascial Release, Prenatal massage and Comfort Touch, and more to come.
All those techniques allow me to offer an integrative style of bodywork, and to focus on your individual needs.
If I had just one word to describe Anne Bouhour's body work it would be talent.
I, myself, am a graduate from the Potomac Massage Training Institute and have received hundreds of massages throughout the past 25 years and I can honestly say that I would be wasting my money if I switched therapists.
I have been one of her regular clients for 7 years now and this service has been so precious to me.
Life is short, do not miss out on this therapists abilities to rejuvenate your mind, body and soul.
LG, Silver Spring
I have been seeing Anne regularly for the last three years. She relieved my chronic pain in the lower back and now I never feel pain there anymore.
That was my first great experience with Appeasing massage.
After that, I took the habit to go and see her for regular massage aiming at releasing the strong tensions I can have in the upper back and neck which are stress related.
Frankly I couldn't live without it. In addition to the positive results, the way Anne gives massage is really soft, pleasant and relaxing. A real pleasure AND effectiveness.
Anne Bouhour combines thorough professional training with a clear gift for healing body work.
Over the past several years, as a regular client, I have become convinced of the value of massage for achieving balance and wholeness in life. Particularly in a high stress environment such as the Washington D.C. area, this can provide an oasis of quiet, relieving the mind as well as the body. And as a physically active person nursing the occasional mechanical injury, Anne has always been prepared to modify her approach, often suggesting new modalities which her ongoing learning makes available.

I feel very fortunate to have chosen Anne Bouhour as my massage therapist for many years.
Her soothing and relaxing massages have kept me healthy and able to do the activities I love most, tennis, swimming, and gardening.
More importantly, she has helped me overcome a chronic back problem which I had suffered from for most of my adult life.
I now consider massage therapy to be a vital part of my health care, thanks to Anne.

High Touch Jin Shin Acupressure
Acupressure is a technique derived from acupuncture, where physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points by the hands.
Jin Shin acupressure balances the body's energy by applying pressure to specific acupressure points, to release tension and increase circulation.
A High Touch Jin Shin treatment is a way to open the body's energy flow by gently touching and holding certain points on a person's fully clothed body.
The process is much like a jumper cable's "jump start". The energy from my hands sparks your body's energy system opening the blockage. Once the congested point is opened, the nourishing and cleansing bodily energy can flow along its designated path. I hold specific sequences of points depending upon which is needed. You are encouraged and supported to subconsciously direct how the energy is used. This loving partnership enables the energy to circulate to whatever depth you need, resulting in a deep level of relaxation and healing. The Jin Shin method of holding acupressure points can relieve pain and common ailments, prevent health disorders, and restore the body's vital life force.
Comfort Touch is a nurturing, encompassing form of acupressure that is safe and appropriate for the elderly and the chronically ill and that gives special consideration to their physical and emotional needs.
Its primary intention is to provide comfort through techniques that promote deep relaxation and relief from pain. It can also be enjoyed by anyone seeking relief from the stresses of daily life.
CranioSacral Therapy(CST) is a gentle hands-on method of releasing restrictions around the brain and spinal cord so your body can self-correct and free itself of pain and other health conditions.
Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – I release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.
CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles.
Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury.
It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two.
The term "deep tissue" is often misused to identify a massage that is performed with sustained deep pressure. In fact, deep tissue massage is a separate category of massage therapy, used to address a specific complaint, as I work to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesions.").
Lymph Drainage Therapy
Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT) is a gentle technique that works through the body's lymphatic system.
The therapist works with flat hands, using all the fingers to simulate gentle, specific wave-like movements. These subtle manual maneuvers activate the body fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems.
The result of these actions can include reductions in edemas, detoxification of the body, regeneration of tissue as well as many other benefits. I'm not yet certified to work with lymphedemas.
Myofascial release refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, and increasing range of motion.
Myofascial release usually involves applying shear compression or tension in various directions, or by skin rolling.
Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and as a therapist trained in prenatal massage, I adjust my techniques accordingly.
Swedish Massage is the most common and best-known type of massage in the West.
In Swedish massage, I lubricate the skin with massage oil and perform various strokes that warm up and work the muscle tissue, releasing tension and breaking up muscle "knots" or adhered tissues, called adhesions.
Swedish massage promotes relaxation, eases muscle tension and creates other health benefits.
